What is a B'nai Mitzvah?
B’nai Mitzvah is the plural of Bar/Bat Mitzvah. While we typically refer to the event as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, the phrase actually refers to the person — Bar Mitzvah translates to “Son of the Commandments” and Bat Mitzvah to “Daughter of the Commandments”. The ceremony marks the transition as a young person takes on the religious privileges and responsibilities of an adult in the Jewish community. In short, it is a coming of age rite of passage ceremony

What should I expect at the service?
Maggie and Ben will be helping to lead the Shabbat service for the community, which will include our guests as well as members of our congregation. The service will include readings and prayers in Hebrew and English, and Ben and Maggie will each chant from the Torah and share a teaching inspired by their Torah portion.
You will be able to follow along with the service, and you are welcome to read prayers or listen as you are comfortable. There will be times when the community is asked to stand – just follow along!
We ask that you silence cell phones and refrain from photography during the service.

What should I wear?
Guests at a bar/bat mitzvah service generally wear somewhat conservative clothing – think business casual or “church” clothes.
The evening party will be festive, but not formal. We want you to be comfortable as we celebrate together!
